Directors Competition is out, Artemis’ Aberrant Reflections in at NET
New Edgecliff exec director Michael Shooner sighs, “We’ve discovered that there simply is not the critical mass of local directors necessary to sustain” Cincinnati Directors Competition so — bye-bye.
Despite being “Still a terrific idea,” Shooner says, “it’s just not well-matched to this market.”
Filling the March 9-12 slot, 2010 Cincy Fringe Festival entry “Aberrant Reflections on the Barbarism of You & I”, with New Edgecliff co-producing with show creator Artemis Exchange.
Busy Artemis is doing a local production of Satori Group’s “Winky” at Know’s Underground Feb. 21-23.
“Aberrant…,” by Chris Wesselman, Mike Miller and Christopher Karr, is adapted from Karr’s novel-in-progress. In case you missed it at the Fringe. think low-camp physical comedy to deliver some high-brow ideas – quoting Artemis Exchange PR: “…to address the secrets, lies, myths, and truths behind eons of humanity’s barbarism”. Three individuals are “captives of a nameless, faceless theatrical autocrat as he continues to force them to perform scenes of a seemingly random and sardonic nature.” These scenes touch on religion, politics, relationships and conspiracy theories – all in the thrill-ride pace of controlled chaos.”
Wesselman costars with Chris Dooley and Emma Robertson. Intended for mature audiences only. 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Columbia Performance Center, 3900 Eastern Ave., Columbia Tusculum. Tickets: $23 adults, $18 seniors, and $15 students. 1-888-588-0137 and www.newedgecliff.com
