Final performances for Eyes of Oedipus at Know
Know Theatre‘s run of Alison Vodnoy‘s original performance piece “The Eyes of Oedipus” closes with final performances a 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday.
A contemporary re-imagining of the ancient Oedipus legend lives in a contemporary, urban world of jagged, spoken-word poetry, and smooth, classical text. Darnell Benjamin plays the title character and Vodnoy shape-shifts in and out of all the other characters, as Oedipus begins to put together the pieces of his past, and comes apart in the present.
Vodnoy said of her writing process, “It’s thrilling to take a story that everyone knows and try to surprise people with it by re-framing the context or view point they have seen before. I believe Oedipus exists in all of us, and it was important to me to show that.”
Tickets $12, available online at www.knowtheatre.com and at the Know Theatre box office, 513-300-5669.
