Killer of James Bulger Behind Bars Again

Secrecy and rumours surround the jailing of Jon Venables for violating terms of his release. Venables and Robert Thompson were 10 when they murdered the toddler in 1993.
It was a crime that shocked not only Britain, but the world. On Feb. 12, 1993, two-year-old James Bulger was in a shopping mall in Merseyside with his mother, Denise. She took her eyes off him for a brief moment and he was gone.
The following day, police released pictures taken from CCVT cameras that showed the toddler being led away by the hand. On Feb. 14, 1993, James’ body was found by some children who were playing beside a railway track. James had been beate, tortured and left on the tracks to be run over by a train.
Five days later Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were arrested for the brutal crime. They were both 10 years old. They were later tried as adults, the youngest persons to be so tried within a century. On Nov. 24, 1993, they were convicted of murder and sentenced to be confined at Her Majesty’s pleasure, the juvenile equivalent of a life sentence.
