I’m hoping you’re familiar with one of my all-time favorite movies, Father of the Bride, with Steve Martin. I’ve watched it over and over and loved it for different reasons at different times of my life — for the gorgeous dress when I was a kid, for the groom when I was in highschool, and for “Franc” when I lived in Chicago’s Boys’ Town.

Now, as a frequently- frazzled wife and mother of three little girls, I relate to Steve Martin’s overwhelmed character like never before. I am very clear on how he ends up behind bars half-way through the movie. I get it. It is so darn frustrating that there are ten hot dogs in one package, and only eight buns in the other. For the love of relish, it takes a grocery cart full of forty of each to match it all up. No good. No good.

While I’m happy to report I do not write to you from Barney Fife’s next room, I will tell you that I found myself similarly frustrated earlier this week buying ingredients for the Frenchie Burger – too few just-ripe plums, way too much butter, and I never know how big my wedge of brie should be. Argh.

The great news is that in just one super juicy bite I was reminded how very worth the grocery-shopping frustration the sandwich is. The even better news is that I’ve been able to turn leftover ingredients into several new meals this week. Servatii’s knots (the rolls we swear by), make a-mazing French Toast, and extra yummy PB&Js for kindergartners. The plums will be perfect in a day or two. But tonight — oh tonight — I repurposed the superfluous stuff into to-die-for pasta.

While a pound of campanelle pasta boiled, I crumbled and cooked the leftover burgers with a handful of chopped fresh parsley. When the pasta was done, I drained all but a cup or so of the pasta water and quickly threw in all the leftover brie and parsley butter and crumbled ground beef. Stirred it until the cheese was melted and…Voila! A mild, creamy, hearty, fresh, fresh, fresh dinner was born.

To quote my oft-mentioned kindergartner, “Mom, this is so good.”

Molly here, writing from my first bloggers’ conference.

As I type, actually, I am sitting beside Debba Haupert of Girlfriendology.com. It was Debba who encouraged me to join her on the journey down to Nashville. (Let me tell you, she is a fantastic person to get to tag along with – lucky me, lucky us). Already we have set up shop with 498 other bloggers, and a select group of corporate sponsors, for the next 2 days. And what an experience it has been so far.

I find myself surrounded by a group of people, women mostly, who are as in love with and passionate about the online world as I am; they, like me, are committed to and excited about growing their online businesses. Who knew all these like-minded folks existed? (And it only took Cooking with Caitlin 2+ years, and all sorts of prodding by Debba, to attend our first conference.) Well, no time like the present. I am taking advantage of every second I am here. As Kelly always says – “we are closer than we have ever been.”

I am here to learn.

The name of the conference is Blissdom. Here are a few images (with corresponding recipes) of bilssfully simple and very tasty recipes. ENJOY!
